Abschluss der Sanierungsarbeiten // Completion of Monastery Roof Renovation

Nach drei Monaten intensiver Aktivitäten auf dem Klosterdach konnten die Arbeiten am 26. August formell abgeschlossen werden. Wir verfügen jetzt über ein völlig runderneuertes Dach, was hoffentlich ein paar Jahrzehnte lang keine weiteren Arbeiten mehr notwendig machen wird. Zusätzlich wird die extra-starke Isolation des Dachs dafür sorgen, dass im Winter mehr Wärme im Haus gehalten wird – dadurch auch die Heizkosten gesenkt werden – und im Sommer ein besserer Schutz gegen extreme Hitze besteht.

Von unseren Gästen erforderte der notwendig gewesene Baulärm während der dreimonatigen Arbeitsphase ein Höchstmaß an Geduld und Flexibilität. Allerdings beklagte sich niemand darüber oder reiste gar vorzeitig ab, sondern man versuchte mit den gegebenen Umständen konstruktiv umzugehen, was uns als Klostergemeinshcaft sehr beeindruckt hat. Daher an dieser Stelle ein besonderer Dank an alle diejenigen, die sich von den Unruhe erzeugenden Aktivitäten etwas herausgefordert fühlten, aber ihnen trotzdem mit einem großen Maß an Gelassenheit begegneten.

After three months of intensive activities on the monastery roof, the work was officially finished on August 26th. We are now shelterd by a completely reconstructed roof, including a copper guttering system and super-insulation. The later should keep more heat inside the house during those severe alpine winters – plus of course considerably reduce our heating bill – and should protect us more adequately against extreme heat periods during the summer.

The three months work period was at times challenging for monastery guests and residents alike, as all the hammering, drilling, planing and sawing created a lot of necessary noise. Building sites have it in their nature to produce at least a mild sense of chaos around themselves and therefore tend to irritate those people, who are not directly involved in the ongoing activities, but have to constantly witness the acoustical outflow. We would like to express our appreciation regarding the attitude of all our guests and visitors during this time. A high degree of patient endurance and flexibility was asked for, but noone complained or even thought of shortening their stay. We were positively impressed by the calmness, serenity and equanimity, with which the unavoidable unpleasantness was met by all our spiritual friends.
